| Edwards of Manchester, established in 1830, is the oldest independent shoe shop outside London. It has been based on the same site on Deansgate since it’s inception. Hand crafted English shoes, made in Northampton, are the mainstay of the business though the shop also stocks shoes from Italy, Germany, Spain, Brazil and even as far away as Australia which provides the company with it’s R M Williams range of hand crafted boots, Australia’s largest export after beer and wine. Word of mouth recommendation takes so many people to this shoe treasure trove that under the manager ship of Craig Johnson and long established staff prides itself on impeccable service in relation to both shoe purchase and repair. You can spend anything here from £75 to up to £2,000 on a beautifully fashioned pair of bespoke beauties. As in recent years Manchester has approached second city status in the UK, Edwards in its prestigious location has come into its own with famous faces regularly popping in and out of the shop. When it comes to the city’s famous football club allegiance Edwards prides itself in its non-partisanship by providing shoes often on private visits to Old Trafford and the City of Manchester stadium. As silver screen and fashion icon Cary Grant once observed: “show me a gentleman’s shoes and I’ll tell you if he’s a well dressed gentleman.” You can confirm his comments with a visit to Edwards! We are a team of experienced, trained fitters; each of us has spent considerable time at the Northampton factories so that we understand the exacting detail that goes into producing a pair of English-made shoes. We stock only the very best including Alfred Sargent, Barker, Borgioli, Cheaney, Church, Crockett & Jones, Gaziano & Girling, Grenson, Loake, Paraboot, Stemar & R M Williams. Our made-to-order service allows you to create your very own individual pair: choose your colours, patterns, linings and sole. How about that for a little indulgence! We also provide a comprehensive made-to-measure service which involves your own last being made from detailed measurements of your feet. Only when you are fully satisfied with the fitting are the soles then hand-stitched in the materials of your choice.
